Materials engineering and inspection services

Material testing and damage analysis

For lightweight constructions and membrane structures, we carry out on-site inspections and specialised laboratory tests of technical textiles. We are DIBt recognised as a testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ). Our experts also inspect, test and certify reinforcing steel and metal construction products. For fire protection of buildings we test sprinkler heads on our own test stand.

On-site inspection of membrane structures combined with laboratory testing

Membranes are used for long-span roofs, such as in sports stadiums. Reliable and durable fabrics are a prerequisite for creating new forms with textile architecture and building technology. Coated glass fabrics, polyester fabrics and films are of particular importance for roofs and façades.

With test benches such as for biaxial tensile testing, accredited laboratory tests and our expertise, we support you in the development and application of your products. We are a recognised testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ, BWU 43) according to LBO in Germany.

Our expertise is in demand worldwide for on-site inspections in lightweight construction projects. When assessing membranes on structures, we use an innovative membrane stress measuring device developed by our laboratory.

Testing of technical textiles

Your benefits with DEKRA material testing for technical textiles

  • Recognised testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ, BWU 43) for technical fabrics
  • On-site inspections with mobile membrane tension measurement worldwide
  • Laboratory test stand for biaxial tensile testing
  • Neutral expert opinion for approval in individual cases (ZiE)
  • Expert opinion on the fulfilment of technical construction specifications

Tested quality from material development to building construction

For the membrane construction sector, our experts offer leading know-how and comprehensive experience. We support manufacturers and planners in the development of material and building-physical properties of technical textiles as well as with the development of new measuring methods and testing equipment. Our experts assist fabricators and construction companies with processing or construction.

The membrane tension measuring device developed by us is used for on-site assessment and inspection of the structure. It serves to prove the existing pre-stress in tensioned membrane surfaces, whereby damage can be prevented effectively and in good time.

Product testing of technical textiles, mesh nets and rope nets

In addition to testing textile fabrics and plastic films, we also offer monoaxial and biaxial tensile strength tests on wire meshes, metal wire meshes and rope nets.

Our DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory for technical textiles and films (formerly Labor Blum) supports you with project-related test set-ups, construction-accompanying method development and laboratory tests.

As a recognised testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ, BWU 43), we offer manufacturers and planners comprehensive testing and inspection services for technical fabrics in accordance with LBO and the building regulations list.

Testing and certification according to DIN 488 and building authority approval

As a manufacturer or processor of concrete-reinforcing steel, you must comply with legal requirements. Our materials experts test and certify your products on site and in the accredited DEKRA laboratory.

In addition to the dimensions and profiling or ribbing of reinforcing steel products, tests in the laboratory include essential properties such as elasticity, ductility, tensile strength, yield strength and weldability.

Our DEKRA laboratory is recognised by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) and by the Supreme Building Authority as a testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ) according to Building Regulation List A and accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025.

Testing of concrete-reinforcing steel

Your benefits with DEKRA for the testing of concrete-reinforcing steel

  • Efficient on-site inspection and testing in the laboratory with experienced materials experts
  • Europe-wide product approvals
  • Recognised testing, monitoring and certification body (PÜZ) according to Building Rules List A
  • Smooth handling of your recognition and certification procedures

Legally compliant fulfilment of technical requirements

The scope of DIN standard 488 for reinforcing steel extends to weldable steel grades for concrete reinforcement, which can be designed as bars, rings, meshes or grids. For reinforcement elements that deviate from this standard, a building authority approval by the responsible state building authority is required.

Our materials laboratory in Saarbrücken is a DBV-approved testing body for industrially manufactured supports according to Eurocode 2 in accordance with Annex A, DBV leaflet "Supports" (certification based on certificate).

Our range of services for concrete-reinforcing steel

  • On-site inspection and accredited material testing
  • Fatigue tests up to 400 kN according to DIN 50100 and DIN 969 respectively
  • Tensile test and compression test (up to 500 kN)
  • Notched bar impact test (up to -180 °C)
  • Bending test, expansion test, folding test
  • Hardness test (Brinell, Vickers, Rockwell, stationary and ambulatory)
  • Optical measurement of the surface geometry of concrete-reinforcing steel products and screws

Safety testing and production monitoring of traffic sign carriers

For engineering structures such as gantries, traffic sign supports, steel poles or fork stands, strict legal regulations apply for inspection and maintenance. Our experts carry out the necessary inspections for stability and road safety on the basis of DIN 1076 and also undertake the monitoring and approval of such installations during production.

Gantry testing according to DIN 1076

Your benefits from DEKRA testing of traffic sign bridges

  • Tested stability and traffic safety
  • Cost efficiency, time and resource savings through external, experienced testing service provider
  • Regular, independent and competent materials testing on site
  • Production monitoring during the construction phase

Detect and correct defects at an early stage

In road traffic, gantries serve as support systems for signposts and traffic signs, on motorways as well as in car parks. To ensure stability and traffic safety, operators must have these systems regularly inspected by experts for defects and damage caused by accidents and material wear in accordance with DIN 1076.

Comprehensive experience and safety expertise

Our materials experts carry out all the prescribed inspections and structural monitoring for state building authorities, municipalities and local authorities as well as companies with large commercial and parking areas.

Our services range from planning to traffic safety and coordination with road maintenance authorities to detailed documentation. The experienced experts in the DEKRA laboratory for materials testing also take over production monitoring for you during the manufacture of new traffic sign carriers.
